What is fiber art? Fiber art refers to fine art whose material consists of natural or synthetic fiber and other components, such as fabric or yarn. It focuses on the materials and on the manual labour on the part of the artist as part of the works' significance, and prioritizes aesthetic value over utility. Examples: Sewing, Weaving, Knitting, Felting! |
Weaving Project
Weaving, sewing, and other kinds of fiber arts extend the benefits of Practical Life work. Children will continue to develop fine motor skills and concentration, while building self-confidence with successful experiences. Each student will create their very own loom! Using yarn we will weave beautiful patterns into our loom. |
Embroidery Project
The goal of teaching children to sew is to gain self-confidence as they learn a new skill. Hand sewing skills develop finger dexterity, patience, and the development of fine motor skills. These skills can be used not only to create beautiful pieces of art and heirlooms to be passed down, they are the same skills needed to mend cloths. Each student will use burlap, thread, and a needle to create a unique embroidered work of art. Our project will highlight our use of multiple types of stitches. |
