Quote: “Art is not delivered like the morning paper; it has to be stolen from Mount Olympus. If you stare at an object, as you do when you paint, there is no point at which you stop learning things from it.”
Wayne Thiebaud ( pronounced Tee-Bow) was born on November 15 in 1920 and is still living. He began his art career as a cartoonist and designer before becoming an artist in the U.S. Navy. In 1960 he became an associate professor and continued to teach students for nearly 20 years. Thiebaud’s most famous works are series of paintings of cakes and pies especially Cakes painted in 1963.

2nd Graders are hard at work creating cupcake's on canvases! First we sketched out our cupcake designs on paper and now we are in the process of transferring our design to a canvas that we will paint next week! Shout out to Ms. Picciotti's class and Bridget for a super fun halloween cupcake costume connection!
3rd graders are excited to paint secondary color ice cream cones on their very own canvas!
4th and 5th grade students have been hard at work creating realistic donut sculptures out of clay. Next week we will focus on the addition of color and texture to make our donuts extra realistic!

becoming a Painter

At Carrcroft students have been exploring what it means to be a painter.
A painter is an artist who works with different kinds of paint, usually on canvas or paper, to create pictures. A painter might use watercolor (which gives a lighter finish), acrylic (synthetic or manufactured paint) or oil paints (which consist of pigment, or color, suspended in oil.) Some painters teach classes at art programs or colleges or museums; others might be hired to do illustrations for books or magazines. Others paint portraits of individual people or families. (More portrait painters were probably hired before cameras made it easy to snap a family photograph!) Sometimes painters  sell their paintings to private collectors, galleries, or museums.

What tools does a painter need to do his job?

Paint Brush
Watercolor Paint
Painter's Palette
Tempera Paint
Canvas and Easel
Smock
